Gabatin for Fibromyalgia Gabatin (1200-2400 mg per day) is safe and effective for the treatment of pain and other symptoms associated with fibromyalgia. In a 12-week, randomized, double-blind study a significantly greater proportion of Gabatin-treated patients achieved response than placebo-treated patients (51% versus 31%). Gabatin compared with placebo also significantly improved the BPI average pain interference score, the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire total score, the Clinical Global Impression of Severity, the Patient Global Impression of Improvement, the Medical Outcomes Study Sleep Problems Index , but not the mean tender point pain threshold or the Montgomery Asberg Depression Rating Scale 5 .

Gabatin for Bipolar disorder Evidence suggests that it may have mood-stabilizing and possibly antidepressant properties in bipolar depression. However, Gabatin off-label use for bipolar disorder is increasingly controversial.

Gabatin may have a role as adjunctive agent in the treatment of patients with bipolar disorders when complicated by co-morb >29 .

Small, randomized clinical trial comparing the prophylactic efficacy of adjunctive Gabatin to placebo has shown that, despite lack of acute efficacy, treatment with Gabatin may prov >3 .

In small, uncontrolled, heterogeneous study Gabatin, either alone or as an adjunct, appeared moderately effective for depressive and manic symptoms 28 .

The findings of placebo-controlled study d >4 .

Dosage for Bipolar disorder: The dosage in clinical trials examining Gabatin for mood stabilization ranged from 900 mg to 2400 mg per day in 3 divided doses.

Gabatin for restless leg syndrome (RLS) Restless legs syndrome is a disorder characterized by sensory and motor symptoms in the legs that is best treated with dopaminergic drugs and opiates. RLS is often difficult to treat. Gabatin provides a well-tolerated and effective treatment of RLS. It improves sensory and motor symptoms in RLS and also improves sleep.

In clinical study Gabatin was associated with reduced symptoms on RLS Rating Scale, Clinical Global Impression, pain analogue scale, and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. Also, studies showed significantly reduced periodic leg movements during sleep and improved sleep architecture (increased total sleep time, sleep efficiency, and slow wave sleep, and decreased stage 1 sleep). Patients whose symptoms included pain benefited most from Gabatin 22 .

Special considerations

Q: Can I safely take Gabatin on an "as needed" basis? I don't want to gain weight and I cannot afford it on an ongoing basis. Is there another drug that I can take as needed that will do the same thing as this one with no weight gain side effects? I am also a diabetic and I take metformin every day. I have fibromyalgia and I take hydrocodone for that and Flexeril for muscle pain.

A: Gabatin is in a drug class called anticonvulsants. Gabatin is used in people who have epilepsy to control certain types of seizures. Additionally, Gabatin is used to treat pain from postherpetic neuralgia, which includes pains and aches that last for months to years after being inflicted with shingles. Gabatin works to reduce seizures by reducing abnormal excitement in the brain. Gabatin works in relieving pain by altering the way the body senses pain. Gabatin may be used for other conditions not mentioned here. Weight gain and weight loss are both reported as side effects with Gabatin.

Gabatin pharmacokinetics were determined in 48 pediatric subjects between the ages of 1 month and 12 years following a dose of approximately 10 mg/kg. Peak plasma concentrations were similar across the entire age group and occurred 2 to 3 hours postdose. In general, pediatric subjects between 1 month and 60 mL/min) to 52 hours (creatinine clearance 60 mL/min group) to about 10 mL/min (

Estimates of steady-state pharmacokinetic parameters for phenobarbital or Gabatin (300 mg three times a day; N=12) are identical whether the drugs are administered alone or together.

Based on AUC and half-life, multiple-dose pharmacokinetic profiles of norethindrone and ethinyl estradiol following administration of tablets containing 2.5 mg of norethindrone acetate and 50 mcg of ethinyl estradiol were similar with and without coadministration of Gabatin (400 mg three times a day; N=13). The Cmax of norethindrone was 13% higher when it was coadministered with Gabatin; this interaction is not expected to be of clinical importance.

Probenecid is a blocker of renal tubular secretion. Gabatin pharmacokinetic parameters without and with probenecid were comparable. This indicates that Gabatin does not undergo renal tubular secretion by the pathway that is blocked by probenecid.

Rated Gabatin (Neurontin) for Neuropathic Pain Report

I was prescribed Gabatin for severe anxiety, panic attacks and depression. It is the only medicine that I've ever taken that completely took all of them away. I take 800mg three times a day. It just sucked my depression away and I've had ZERO panic attacks since I started taking it. Some will say Gabatin is not helpful for anxiety and depression, but they're wrong. Trust me, I've had crippling anxiety and depression for 25 years and have tried every SSRI, SNRI and benzo there is. Nothing worked even half as well as Gabatin does. If you suffer from an anxiety disorder, please give this medicine a shot. Everyone's different, so although I need 2400mg a day, you might only need 900mg. I've read that some people take as much as 4800mg per day to get good results. I'm so thankful my Dr prescribed this for me. I have my life back. I also sleep much, much more soundly and longer. I used to wake up every two or three hours all night long. Now I sleep five or six hours straight, wake up top use the bathroom, then sleep a few more hours and wake up feeling refreshed. My OCD tics have also dramatically diminished. This drug is a miracle for anxiety!

Rated Gabatin (Neurontin) for Postherpetic Neuralgia Report

I’ve recently been experiencing burning in my feet and legs. It was to the point that I couldn’t walk without serious consequences. I couldn’t rest my feet on my bed. I was waking up off and on all night in pain. Went to the ER because it was getting worse and the nerve pain was spreading. They prescribed Gabatin 100mg. I’ve only been on it two days so take this with a grain of salt but, it’s been an absolute miracle. Significant pain reduction, I’m able to do things again. I’m glad I gave it a shot even though I’d heard bad things. Everyone reacts differently. If you’re struggling, give it a shot.
