Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) drug
Taking methylphenidate with Prodil can decrease the effect of Prodil. This may cause your blood pressure to stay too high.
- Low blood pressure warning: Prodil can cause your blood pressure to become low. This may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, and vertigo when you stand up. This is most common with your first dose of medication, but it can also occur when your doctor changes your dosage. To help prevent this problem, your doctor will start you on the lowest dosage and slowly increase it.
- Cataract surgery warning: Intraoperative floppy iris syndrome (IFIS) can occur during cataract surgery in people who take or have taken Prodil. Be sure to tell your doctor if you have a cataract surgery planned.
Prodil oral tablet is a prescription drug. It comes in immediate-release and extended-release forms.
Prodil oral tablets are available as the brand-name drugs Cardura (immediate release) and Cardura XL (extended release). The immediate-release form is also available in a generic version. Generic drugs usually cost less than the brand-name version. In some cases, they may not be available in all strengths or forms as the brand-name drug.
Plasma elimination of Prodil is biphasic, with a terminal elimination half-life of about 22 hours. Steady-state studies in hypertensive patients given Prodil doses of 2 to 16 mg once daily showed linear kinetics and dose proportionality. In two studies, following the administration of 2 mg orally once daily, the mean accumulation ratios (steady-state AUC vs. first-dose AUC) were 1.2 and 1.7. Enterohepatic recycling is suggested by secondary peaking of plasma Prodil concentrations.
In a study of two subjects administered radiolabelled Prodil 2 mg orally and 1 mg intravenously on two separate occasions, approximately 63% of the dose was eliminated in the feces and 9% of the dose was found in the urine. On average only 4.8% of the dose was excreted as unchanged drug in the feces and only a trace of the total radioactivity in the urine was attributed to unchanged drug.
Rated Prodil for Hypertension Report
The drug does everything the doctor said it would, including lowering BP and decreasing prostate problems. However, it seems to build up in my system after a few continuous days of treatment and causes me to have extreme fatigue. In fact, I can hardly go an hour during a day without lying down and falling asleep for an hour or so. The feeling is overwhelming and makes me essentially dysfunctional. Quiet activities such as reading or watching TV are impossible without falling asleep. I take only 2 mg at night.
Although blockade of alpha1 adrenoceptors also lowers blood pressure in hypertensive patients with increased peripheral vascular resistance, CARDURA treatment of normotensive men with BPH did not result in a clinically significant blood pressure lowering effect (Table 4). The proportion of normotensive patients with a sitting systolic blood pressure less than 90 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure less than 60 mmHg at any time during treatment with CARDURA 1–8 mg once daily was 6.7% with Prodil and not significantly different (statistically) from that with placebo (5%).
