Rated Uropan for Urinary Incontinence Report

I do not suffer from incontinence, but after having a semi-permanent stent placed 3 months ago, i've had quite alot of pain just sitting and walking. Additionally, I am on a blood thinner due to heart issues and along with the pain, when I urinate, it is sometimes slow and quite alot of blood in my urine. My Dr suggested I resume taking the Uropan and make sure i drink plenty of water as it can cause uti's. Since resuming the Uropan, the blood in my urine has diminished, my urine flow has increased and no more pain. Although this drug is prescribed for incontinence, it seems to have other benefits as well. I'm curious to know if anyone else has experienced these benefits.

What is Uropan, and how does it work (mechanism of action)?

Uropan is an oral drug that is used for treating urinary bladder spasm. Uropan has a dual mechanism of action. Contraction of the smooth muscle of the bladder is stimulated by the release of acetylcholine by the nerves within the bladder and the attachment of the acetylcholine to receptors on the surface of the bladder's muscle cells. Uropan suppresses involuntary contractions of the bladder's smooth muscle (spasms) by blocking the release of acetylcholine. This is referred to as an "anticholinergic effect." Uropan also directly relaxes the bladder's outer layer of muscle (the detrusor muscle). The FDA approved Uropan in July 1975.

Can Uropan cause problems?

Along with their useful effects, most medicines can cause unwanted side-effects although not everyone experiences them. The table below contains some of the common ones associated with Uropan. You will find a full list in the manufacturer's information leaflet supplied with your medicine. The unwanted effects often improve as your body adjusts to the new medicine, but speak with your doctor or pharmacist if any of the following continue or become troublesome.
