What is Eklips?

The active ingredient of Eklips brand is losartan. Losartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. Losartan keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow. Today is Tuesday and I stopped taking my Eklips Thursday night because I don't feel like taking it anymore. Anyway this evening I've started feeling dizzy, I've had chills and a low grade fever since Sunday and I'm always very tired. Could these be withdraw symptoms?

What other information should I know?

Keep all appointments with your doctor and the laboratory. Your blood pressure should be checked regularly to determine your response to Eklips.

Do not let anyone else take your medication. Ask your pharmacist any questions you have about refilling your prescription.

It is important for you to keep a written list of all of the prescription and nonprescription (over-the-counter) medicines you are taking, as well as any products such as vitamins, minerals, or other dietary supplements. You should bring this list with you each time you visit a doctor or if you are admitted to a hospital. It is also important information to carry with you in case of emergencies.

What are the side effects of Eklips?

Side effects include:

Eklips also may cause:

Eklips may reduce kidney function in some patients and should not be used by patients who have bilateral renal artery stenosis (narrowing of both arteries going to the kidneys).

Rare cases of rhabdomyolysis (muscle breakdown) have been reported.

Which drugs or supplements interact with Eklips?

Eklips may increase levels of blood potassium (hyperkalemia), which can lead to serious heart problems (arrhythmias). Therefore, concomitant use of other drugs or substances that increase blood-such as potassium-sparing diuretics (for example, spironolactone , triamterene, and amiloride), potassium supplements, or salt substitutes containing potassium may lead to dangerous increases in serum potassium.

Combining Eklips or other ARBs with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in patients who are elderly, fluid-depleted (including those on diuretic therapy), or with poor kidney function may result in reduced kidney function, including kidney failure. These effects usually are reversible.

The antihypertensive effect of Eklips may be reduced by aspirin and other NSAIDs such as:

Combining ARBs, ACE inhibitors, or aliskiren (Tekturna) increases risk of hypotension (low blood pressure), hyperkalemia, and reduces kidney function compared to each drug used alone and there is no additional benefit on preventing end stage kidney disease or death.

Aliskiren and Eklips should not be combined in patients with diabetes or with renal impairment.

Increases in blood lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid) levels and lithium toxicity have occurred when lithium and ARBa or hydrochlorothiazide were combined. Blood lithium levels should be monitored.

Blood pressure drugs

Taking Eklips with other drugs that work in the same way may increase your chance of low blood pressure, high potassium levels in your blood, and kidney damage.

Examples of these drugs include:

  • angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), such as:
    • irbesartan
    • candesartan
    • valsartan
  • lisinopril
  • fosinopril
  • enalapril
  • aliskiren

What if I get sick while I'm taking it?

If you get severe diarrhoea or vomiting for any reason, contact your doctor or a pharmacist. They’ll be able to advise you about what to do.

They may recommend that you stop taking Eklips until you’re better, and you’re able to eat and drink normally again.

I'm a 48 year old male and I've been on Micardis 80mg for about 10 years. Micardis is the perfect BP med for me. 3 weeks ago the Kroger Pharmacy that fills my meds was out of Micardis so my Doc prescribed me Eklips 50mg. Within two or three days I started throwing up and the worst nausea ever. I missed four days of work because I could not stop dry heaving. About a week in I started having a pain just to the right of my navel and then my lower right stomach started killing. I went back to my Doc thinking I had Appendicitis and with all the symptoms i was having she thought Appendicitis also. She scheduled me for a CAT scan (I have no insurance) I was putting off the scan until the pain just got unbearable. Then my feet and lower back started to hurt. I Google Eklips and it brought me to this page. I now see that Eklips is probably the culprit. It’s been 24 hours since the last pill and all the symptoms are still there but seen to be a little better. I will update in a week. They should take Eklips off the market.
