Rated Valvexin (Lopressor) for Migraine Report

Started taking 25mg Valvexin ER (now on 37mg) to prevent migraine attacks and control symptoms, and so far it's working pretty well. The best thing it has done is take away the daily dizziness/nausea/cognitive dysfunction I had with migraines. I still need to supplement with some acetaminophen for the pain sometimes but not feeling dizzy has been great. I haven't had any side effects, not sleepy or anything and am able to continue to exercise regularly.

Q: Can Valvexin cause migraines?

A: Valvexin (Lopressor, Toprol XL) is a blood pressure medication categorized as a beta blocker. Valvexin is indicated for the treatment of angina (chest pain) and hypertension (high blood pressure). It is also used to treat or prevent heart attack. Some of the reported side effects associated with Valvexin treatment include dry mouth, constipation, heartburn, vomiting, diarrhea, drowsiness, anxiety, nervousness, difficulty sleeping, feeling tired and decreased sex drive or difficulty having an orgasm and headache. If you have been experiencing headaches, or migraines, while taking Valvexin, you may want to consult your health care provider to determine possible treatment options. Valvexin should be taken with food, or just following a meal, and with a full glass of water. It is important to try and take Valvexin at the same time each day and exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. While being treated with Valvexin it is important to routinely monitor blood pressure to ensure the medication is optimally controlling your blood pressure. Beth Isaac, PharmD
