Side Effects of Neobloc Tartrate: belongs to a group of drugs known as beta-blockers. Beta-blockers can affect the heart as well as circulation (blood flow throughout the arteries and veins). Neobloc is used to cure angina (chest pain) and hypertension (high blood pressure levels). It can also be utilized to treat or even avoid heart-attack. Neobloc can also be used for some other purposes not listed in this treatment guide. Curing high blood pressure levels, alone or along with other medications; long term treatments for chest pain; and lowering the risk of fatality because of heart problems in patients who have had a heart attack. This can also be used for other problems as prescribed by a medical expert.

Lopressor is primarily metabolized by CYP2D6. Neobloc is a racemic mixture of Rand S- enantiomers, and when administered orally, it exhibits stereo selective metabolism that is dependent on oxidation phenotype. CYP2D6 is absent (poor metabolizers) in about 8% of Caucasians and about 2% of most other populations. Poor CYP2D6 metabolizers exhibit several-fold higher plasma concentrations of Lopressor than extensive metabolizers with normal CYP2D6 activity thereby decreasing Lopressor’s cardioselectivity.

Q: Does Neobloc cause an increase in blood sugar?

A: Neobloc belongs to the group of medications known as beta blockers. Neobloc is used to treat many conditions. The most common condition it is used to treat is high blood pressure. There are no reports of Neobloc causing the blood sugar to rise in the blood. Some patients on Neobloc have actually reported low blood sugar while on this medication. In fact, sources report that Neobloc may mask the symptoms of low blood sugar. Some symptoms of low blood sugar include fast heartbeat, anxiety, chills, dizziness, drowsiness, fainting, headache, tremor, unusual sweating, vision changes and weakness. It is not advisable to suddenly stop taking Neobloc as this may worsen the medical condition for which it was prescribed. It is advisable to seek the advice of a qualified medical provider if the blood sugar has risen without any change in diet or change in exercise to determine if the cause of the rise in blood sugar is from an external source or from a change in the medical condition. Q: Can Neobloc cause dry cough?

A: Lopressor (Neobloc tartrate) belongs to a class of drugs called beta-blockers. Neobloc works by reducing the amount of work the heart has to do and the amount of blood the heart pumps out. Neobloc can also slow down the heart when it beats too fast or there is an irregular rhythm. Neobloc is also used for high blood pressure. Neobloc is also available as an extended-release tablet called Toprol XL (Neobloc ER). Neobloc should be taken at the same time every day. A Toprol XL tablet can be divided in half if your doctor has told you to do so. The half tablet should be swallowed whole, without chewing or crushing. Chewing or crushing the pill could cause too much of the drug to be released at one time. Neobloc should be taken at the same time every day. Also, Neobloc should be taken with food or right after eating for best absorption. ? Common side effects of Neobloc include diarrhea, dizziness, muscle aches and unusual tiredness or weakness. Other side effects may include dry mouth, diarrhea, sleep problems, anxiety and nervousness. A search of prescribing information did not specifically list dry cough as a potential side effect of Neobloc. This is not a complete list of side effects associated with Neobloc, consult with the doctor if you have any concerns. Never stop your medication if you experience unwanted side effects without first consulting with the healthcare provider. Kimberly Hotz, PharmD.

ISCHEMIC HEART DISEASE

Following abrupt cessation of therapy with certain beta-blocking agents, exacerbations of angina pectoris and, in some cases, myocardial infarction have occurred. When discontinuing chronically administered TOPROL-XL, particularly in patients with is chemic heart disease, the dos age should be gradually reduced over a period of 1 - 2 weeks and the patient should be carefully monitored. If angina markedly worsens or acute coronary insufficiency develops, TOPROL-XL administration should be reinstated promptly, at least temporarily, and other measures appropriate for the management of unstable angina should be taken. Warn patients against interruption or discontinuation of therapy without the physician’s advice. Because coronary artery disease is common and may be unrecognized, it may be prudent not to discontinue TOPROL-XL therapy abruptly even in patients treated only for hypertension (see WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS).

Nursing Mothers

Neobloc is excreted in breast milk in very small quantities. An infant consuming 1 liter of breast milk daily would receive a dose of less than 1 mg of the drug. Consider possible infant exposure when TOPROL-XL is administered to a nursing woman.

Rated Neobloc (Lopressor) for Migraine Report

Started taking 25mg Neobloc ER (now on 37mg) to prevent migraine attacks and control symptoms, and so far it's working pretty well. The best thing it has done is take away the daily dizziness/nausea/cognitive dysfunction I had with migraines. I still need to supplement with some acetaminophen for the pain sometimes but not feeling dizzy has been great. I haven't had any side effects, not sleepy or anything and am able to continue to exercise regularly.

Q: What possible side effects might I have from drinking alcohol while taking Neobloc tartrate?

A: Studies suggest that alcohol does not interfere with beta blockers such as Neobloc if consumed in moderation. Having said that , alcohol and most drugs are metabolized through the liver. If the liver is exhausted with high amounts of alchohol and drugs, liver enzymes can be elevated. To evaluate liver function, please keep all doctor's appointments. Excessive alcohol consumption with medications can be harmful to the liver. Beena Thomas, PharmD
