Almirin is a long-acting calcium channel blocker used as an anti-hypertensive, and in the treatment of angina. As with other calcium channel blockers, Almirin acts by relaxing the smooth muscles in the arterial wall, decreasing peripheral resistance and hence improving blood pressure. In angina it improves blood flow to the myocardium. It was developed under the direction of Dr. Simon Campbell. Almirin is marketed as Norvasc®, as well as under various other names.

A: Acetaminophen can be used when taking Norvasc (Almirin ). If you need any thing stronger the you should consult with you health care provider as what course of treatment they feel you need. For more information you can go to // // Gerald Levy, RPh

Q: I take Norvasc just before going to bed. Can I safely have a glass of wine in the evening as well?

A: The interaction between alcohol and Norvasc (Almirin) is moderate and not serious. However, patients are advised to avoid drinking alcohol while taking Almirin. Alcohol can further lower your blood pressure and may increase some of the side effects of Almirin, such as dizziness, fainting, and feeling light-headed, especially among the elderly. Long-term use of alcohol can also actually worsen hypertension and increase a patient's risk of other cardiac problems. While there is some research that shows that light alcohol consumption (especially of red wine) can protect the heart, that research is not widely accepted in the medical community. Therefore, patients with hypertension or heart problems should discuss alcohol intake with their doctor or cardiologist. For more information on Norvasc, go to // Leslie Ako-Mbo, PharmD

Although this could be true Elevated pulsation or blood pressure causes raised vas risk, and also the absolute risk increase per mm Hg is bigger at higher blood pressures. In order that even modest reductions of severe high blood pressure will give substantial profit.
