The following in vitro data are available, but their clinical significance is unknown. At least 90 percent of the following microorganisms exhibit an in vitro minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) less than or equal to the susceptible breakpoint for Novuroxim axetil of 1 mcg/mL. However, the efficacy of Novuroxim axetil in treating clinical infections due to these microorganisms has not been established in adequate and well-controlled clinical trials.

Summary of Use during Lactation

Limited information indicates that Novuroxim produces low levels in milk that are not expected to cause severe adverse effects in breastfed infants. Occasionally disruption of the infant's gastrointestinal flora, resulting in diarrhea or thrush have been reported with cephalosporins, but these effects have not been adequately evaluated. Novuroxim is acceptable in nursing mothers.

Concomitant administration of probenecid with Novuroxim axetil tablets increases serum concentrations of Novuroxim . Coadministration of probenecid with Novuroxim axetil is not recommended.

Since Novuroxim is chemically related to penicillin, patients allergic to penicillin may develop an allergic reaction (sometimes even anaphylaxis) to Novuroxim. Novuroxim like other antibiotics can alter the colon's normal bacteria, leading to overgrowth of a bacterium called Clostridium difficile. Overgrowth of this bacterium leads to the release of toxins that contribute to the development of Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, which may range in severity from mild diarrhea to fatal pseudomembranous colitis.
