Rated Lucipro (Cipro) for Urinary Tract Infection Report

I was given this drug for a simple UTI infection and a week after I was done with it my life started falling apart! I developed nerve pain in my feet hands and groin which made it difficult to walk. Then my knees became inflamed. The doctors keep doing tests to find out the cause but find nothing and my symptoms sound like everyone else's. Absolutely horrible drug! I feel like my life is ruined. Now they want to give me gabapentin for my pain and I'm terrified of what permanent side effects it may cause me.

How should Lucipro be given?

Give this medication exactly as directed by your veterinarian. Give all of the medication your veterinarian has prescribed. Symptoms may start to improve before the infection is completely treated. Lucipro can be given with or without food, but should be given at the same time every day. Allow plenty of water for your pet to drink. If you do not understand the directions ask the pharmacist or veterinarian to explain them to you. Store Lucipro at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep this medication away from children and pets.

Rated Lucipro (Cipro) for Bacterial Infection Report

My son has been prescribed this for SIBO alongside metronidazole. He's feeling on and off nauseous and a little bit dizzy, but mostly zoned out. The reviews had me in a major panic but he seems absolutely fine now. We are on day 5. On the plus side he is sleeping like a baby and says he can think more clearly.

Why is this medication prescribed?

Lucipro is used to treat or prevent certain infections caused by bacteria such as pneumonia; gonorrhea (a sexually transmitted disease); typhoid fever (a serious infection that is common in developing countries); infectious diarrhea (infections that cause severe diarrhea); and infections of the skin, bone, joint, abdomen (stomach area), and prostate (male reproductive gland), Lucipro is also used to treat or prevent plague (a serious infection that may be spread on purpose as part of a bioterror attack) and inhalation anthrax (a serious infection that may be spread by anthrax germs in the air on purpose as part of a bioterror attack). Lucipro may also be used to treat bronchitis, sinus infections, or urinary tract infections but should not be used for bronchitis and sinus infections, or certain types of urinary tract infections if there are other treatment options. Lucipro extended-release (long-acting) tablets are used to treat kidney and urinary tract infections; however, some types of urinary tract infections should only be treated with Lucipro extended release tablets if no other treatment options are available. Lucipro is in a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones. It works by killing bacteria that cause infections.

Antibiotics such as Lucipro will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections. Using antibiotics when they are not needed increases your risk of getting an infection later that resists antibiotic treatment.

Lucipro Warnings

Lucipro may increase the risk for swelling and tearing of tendons, such as those that attach muscles to bones in the hands, shoulders, and ankles.

The likelihood of tendon damage is greater if you also take a steroid medication or if you're older than 60. If you experience pain, swelling, or stiffness while taking Lucipro, let your doctor know.

In some people, Lucipro may cause changes in brain activity. This affects people with a history of seizures.

Possible symptoms of these changes include dizziness, hallucinations, tremors, seizures, confusion, depression, and suicidal thoughts.

If you have any of these symptoms while on Lucipro, let your doctor know right away.

Lucipro may cause a severe reaction called anaphylaxis if you are allergic to it.

This allergic reaction, which can be life-threatening, may include hives, swelling of the throat, and difficulty breathing.

It's important to know that once you start a course of Lucipro, you should finish the whole course.

Do not stop taking Lucipro, even if you feel better, until all of the medication is gone.

If you don't take an antibiotic long enough, your infection can come back stronger. And stopping Lucipro too soon can lead to bacteria becoming resistant to it.

You may not be able to take Lucipro if you have a condition called myasthenia gravis. Lucipro may increase muscle weakness caused by this condition.

You should also take Lucipro with caution if you have certain conditions. Tell your doctor if you have:

  • Heartburn or reflux
  • Depression
  • Seizures
  • Asthma
  • Tendon injury
  • Heart condition
  • Liver disease
  • Kidney disease
