    • Finishing therapy: It’s important to finish the entire course of treatment as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking this drug or skip doses if you start to feel better. This could cause your infection to last longer. You could also develop a resistance to the medication. This means that if you get a bacterial infection in the future, you may not be able to treat it with Clavukem.
    • Diarrhea: Clavukem may cause diarrhea. Call your doctor if you have bloody or watery diarrhea, with or without stomach cramps and fever.
    • Serious allergic reaction: This drug can cause a serious allergic reaction. This reaction can be fatal (cause death). If you’re allergic to other antibiotics, such as penicillins or cephalosporins, your risk for an allergic reaction may be higher. Call your doctor right away if you have trouble breathing or swelling of your throat or tongue while you’re taking this drug.

Clavukem is a prescription antibiotic. It’s used to treat infections caused by a certain type of bacteria. It may be used as part of a combination therapy. This means you may need to take it with other medications.

The oral tablet comes as an immediate-release (IR) tablet, extended-release (ER) tablet, and chewable tablet. The chewable tablet and IR tablet are only available as generic drugs. The ER tablet is only available as the brand-name drug Moxatag.

Generic drugs usually cost less. In some cases, they may not be available in every strength or form as their brand-name versions.

Clavukem also comes as a capsule and a suspension. All forms are taken by mouth.

Clavukem is a widely-used antibiotic drug. It belongs to the penicillin group of drugs and is prescribed to treat certain infections that are caused by bacteria.

It can also be used alongside other medications to treat stomach ulcers caused by H. pylori infection.

In the United States (U.S.), its brand names include Larotid, Amoxil, DisperMox, Moxilin, and Trimox.

    Difficulty urinating

Painful urination describes any pain, discomfort, or burning sensation during urination.

Pain during urination is a fairly common problem. It is most often caused by a urinary tract infection.

Clavukem may cause crystals to form in the urine. These crystals are directly tied to the Clavukem and look very different than crystals otherwise commonly found in urine. It can also happen in rare cases where the kidney is negatively impacted.

To prevent this, never take more than your prescribed dose and drink plenty of water. If you’re experiencing slight discomfort when you urinate, drink water and reduce the amount of protein in your diet.

Painful urination can also indicate renal failure or damage. Contact your doctor right away if you are experiencing this.

    Q: Can Clavukem cause coughing?

A: Clavukem (Amoxil) is an antibiotic classified as a penicillin and fights bacteria in the body. Clavukem is indicated in the treatment of several different types of bacterial infections including ear infections, bladder infections, pneumonia, gonorrhea and E.coli or salmonella infections. Clavukem is also approved to treat stomach ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infections in combination with other medications, such as Biaxin (clarithromycin) and Prevacid (lansoprazole). According to the prescribing information available for Amoxil, the brand-name of Clavukem, cough was not a reported side effect associated with treatment. If you have been experiencing a bothersome cough, you may want to consult with your doctor to determine the underlying cause and possible treatment options. Some of the side effects possible with Clavukem treatment include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, vaginal itching or discharge, headache, swollen, black or "hairy" tongue or thrush (white patches inside the mouth and throat). Antibiotics, such as Clavukem, can cause diarrhea. This could be a side effect or it could indicate a new infection. If you experience diarrhea that is watery or has blood in it, contact your doctor immediately and do not take any medication to stop the diarrhea unless otherwise instructed. Clavukem may be taken with or without food. If stomach upset occurs, take Clavukem with food. Clavukem should be taken for the entire length of time prescribed by your doctor. Although your symptoms may begin to resolve before the infection is completely treated, do not stop taking Clavukem until you are finished with the course of therapy. Clavukem will not treat a viral infection such as a cold or the flu. Beth Isaac, PharmD

What are the potential side effects of Clavukem?

Contact your veterinarian immediately if the pet experiences severe or bloody diarrhea during treatment. Stop giving Clavukem and seek emergency veterinary medical care in the event of an allergic reaction (shortness of breath; hives; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; rash; or fainting), seizures, unusual bleeding, or bruising. Other less serious side effects such as mild nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or abdominal pain, or yeast or fungal infection may be more likely to occur. Continue to give Clavukem and notify your veterinarian if these symptoms occur. Talk to your veterinarian about any side effect that seems unusual or bothersome to your pet.
