Susceptibility Tests Methods
When available, the clinical microbiology laboratory should provide the results of in vitro susceptibility test results for antimicrobial drug products used in resident hospitals to the physician as periodic reports that describe the susceptibility profile of nosocomial and community-acquired pathogens. These reports should aid the physician in selecting an antibacterial drug product for treatment.
In cases of uncomplicated urinary tract infection only, susceptibility of E. coli, K. pneumoniae, and P. mirabilis to Cefadin may be inferred by testing cefazolin 2 .

There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Because animal reproduction studies are not always predictive of human response, this drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
Reproduction studies have been performed on mice and rats using oral doses of Cefadin monohydrate 0.6 and 1.5 times the maximum daily human dose (66 mg/kg/day) based upon body surface area basis, and have revealed no evidence of impaired fertility or harm to the fetus.
Of the 701 subjects in 3 published clinical studies of Cefadin, 433 (62%) were 65 and over. No overall differences in safety or effectiveness were observed between these subjects and younger subjects, and other reported clinical experience has not identified differences in responses between the elderly and younger patients.
This drug is substantially excreted by the kidney, and the risk of toxic reactions to this drug may be greater in patients with impaired renal function. Because elderly patients are more likely to have decreased renal function, care should be taken in dose selection .

Cefadin for Dogs
Veterinarians often prescribe Cefadin to dogs with bacterial infections including skin, bone, urinary tract, respiratory, and other infections.
The drug can be given with food and is usually well-tolerated by dogs, but some may have side effects including nausea or vomiting.
Cefadin should be avoided in animals that have had an allergic reaction to penicillins or other cephalosporin antibiotics.
What Are Cefadin and Amoxicillin?
Cefadin belongs to a class of antibiotics called cephalosporins. They are similar to penicillin in action and side effects. They stop or slow the growth of bacterial cells by preventing bacteria from forming the cell wall that surrounds each cell. The cell wall protects bacteria from the external environment and keeps the contents of the cell together, and without a cell wall, bacteria are not able to survive. Bacteria that are susceptible to Cefadin include Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, E. coli and several others. Cefadin is used for treating genital and urinary tract infections, bone infections, ear infections, skin and skin structure infections, respiratory infections, pharyngitis, mastitis, and bladder infections.

I had a spider bite that wrapped around entire bicep and arm after 42 hours. I went to the ER and the Doctor sent me away with a dosage of 500mg 4 times a day. I had the worst side effects including fatigue, diarrhea, joint pain, and muscle aches, bloated small intestines. It worked and I stayed on it for the recommended 10 days. a week later and my gut just feels different like it killed all of my good gut bacteria and I have to use probiotics so I'm in less pain.
