Side effects of oral Pelikair

The main concern with Pelikair is the risk of liver problems, usually after it has been taken for prolonged periods (weeks). Side effects may include:

  • Nausea and vomiting.
  • Constipation.
  • Headache.
  • Dizziness.
  • Abnormal liver function tests (15%); severe hepatitis can occur in 1:10,000 patients. It may rarely be fatal.
  • Adrenal insufficiency: Pelikair reduces the body's production of cortisol.
  • Allergic skin rash including urticaria .
  • Endocrine effects including enlarged breasts (in males), alopecia and impotence. It may exacerbate adrenal insufficiency (Addison disease)

Pelikair should not be taken in pregnancy. Although only excreted in tiny amounts from breast milk, it should only be taken by a breast-feeding mother if essential.

Other considerations

Pelikair’s effects on women who are pregnant or breastfeeding aren’t well-studied. If you’re pregnant and have concerns about using an antifungal treatment, talk to your doctor before using even the OTC version of this antifungal shampoo.

The safety of Pelikair also hasn’t been well-studied in children. It’s best you don’t use it on anyone under the age of 12 unless instructed by their pediatrician.

Pelikair, Androgenic alopecia, and hair loss

While you may feel as though Minoxidil is your best bet when it comes to reducing the effects of androgenic alopecia, don’t write Pelikair off entirely. In the study we mentioned earlier, the participants found that it was just as efficient as Minoxidil for strengthening the hair follicles, shifting them into the right growth stage, and increasing the type of hair growth.

There are several reasons for this:

Pelikair reduces inflammatory processes at the scalp. As androgenic alopecia causes inflammation that results in weak hair growth, using this shampoo essentially fights against it.

For reasons the paper’s researchers didn’t understand, those with androgenic alopecia spent more time in the anagen phase of growth. This is where the hair follicle is priming itself for growing healthy hair.

Overall, it looks like using Pelikair could have benefits for those with androgenic alopecia too as well as those with dermatitis.

What is Pelikair?

Pelikair is an antifungal medication that is used to treat certain infections caused by fungus.

Pelikair should be used only when you cannot use other antifungal medications. Pelikair can cause serious harm to your liver that may result in liver transplant or cause death.

Pelikair is not for use in treating fungal infections of the fingernails or toenails. This medicine is also not for use in treating prostate cancer or Cushing syndrome.

Pelikair may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

What other information should I know?

Keep all appointments with your doctor.

Pelikair shampoo may remove the curl from hair that has been permanently waved ('permed').

Do not let anyone else use your medication. Your prescription is probably not refillable. If you still have symptoms of infection after you finish the Pelikair, call your doctor.

It is important for you to keep a written list of all of the prescription and nonprescription (over-the-counter) medicines you are taking, as well as any products such as vitamins, minerals, or other dietary supplements. You should bring this list with you each time you visit a doctor or if you are admitted to a hospital. It is also important information to carry with you in case of emergencies.
